Southern Nevada Best Neighborhoods to Live and Learn: Five Star Elementary Schools

Southern Nevada Best Neighborhoods to Live and Learn: Five Star Elementary Schools

Clark County School District's Batterman Elementary School receives 5 Stars (2012-2013)

Are You in the Market to Buy in the Best Neighborhoods to Live and Learn in the Las Vegas Valley?

Here are common questions asked by home buyers about schools in Southern Nevada:
What is the school like in the neighborhood I want to buy?
What are the best public schools?

One way to help homeowners evaluate the public school in a neighborhood is to look at the School Performance Framework Report. The Nevada Department of Education released the 2013 Nevada school performance framework report on September 16, 2013. For the 2012-2013 school year, 27 elementary schools in Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas, earned a 5 star rating. Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF) produces an index score based on 100 points for each individual Nevada public school. The NSFP measures against established criteria which define 5 levels.

School Performance Framework: A Model for Nevada Schools

Clark County School District serves the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson. The CCSD school district follows a School Performance Framework as part of the Nevada Growth Model to assess elementary and middle schools. Performance indicators include: Academic Growth, Academic Achievement, Academic Growth Gaps, and Other Indicators. Academics and school climate are calculated to measure the School Performance Framework score. For information about high schools, see the article "

Great Neighborhood, Great School

As you search and seek the ideal home for you and your family in the Las Vegas Valley, consider the following pointers:
  1. Organize Your Family Needs: Write a list of factors essential for your family. Consider the square footage of the house, the lot size, number of garage spaces, and number of stories. Use this information to guide your criteria search for your new home.
  2. Communicate with Your Realtor: Prepare a list of questions for your Realtor. At Jill Paige Homes you can use the Find the Perfect Property FREE service to help you as a guide. Ask about the neighborhood services (e.g. community centers, clubs, trails, dog parks, playgrounds at parks, childcare). Ask about schools (e.g. public, private, charter, and homeschool resources). Jill Paige Homes has compiled a list of schools in addition to public school information. Ask about amenities (e.g. shopping). Customize questions to meet the needs of your family.
  3. Search the Neighborhoods: At Jill Paige Homes, we use HomeFinder Alert System to help you match the criteria to your ideal home. Sign up to receive alerts; the service is FREE, FAST, and CONVENIENT.
  4. Review Nevada Rankings for Public Schools: Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is determined and reported annually by the Nevada Department of Education. Schools are designated as “Exemplary,” “Continuing Exemplary,” “Exemplary Turnaround,” or “High Achieving,” "Adequate", “On Watch List,” and “In Need of Improvement." School designation reports are usually released mid-August.

Charter Schools Offer Options for Families in Southern Nevada

The first two states to ratify laws in favor of charter schools were Minnesota (1991) and California (1992). Nevada offers two types of charters: Nevada and school district (see Nevada Law NRS 386). The Nevada law was passed in 1997 and revised in 2011.Options galore for charter schools in Southern Nevada! Virtual classrooms, distance learning, focus on technology, foreign languages, and the arts are just a list of offerings.  Both the Nevada State Charter Schools and the Clark County School District Charter Schools are authorities which support curriculum innovation, family involvement and student achievement through independent public schools. Charter schools are public schools of choice which serve ALL student populations, provide tuition-free education, offer flexibility and greater accountability.
