Charter Schools Offer Options for Families in Southern Nevada

The first two states to ratify laws in favor of charter schools were Minnesota (1991) and California (1992). Nevada offers two types of charters: Nevada and school district (see Nevada Law NRS 386). The Nevada law was passed in 1997 and revised in 2011.Options galore for charter schools in Southern Nevada! Virtual classrooms, distance learning, focus on technology, foreign languages, and the arts are just a list of offerings.  Both the Nevada State Charter Schools and the Clark County School District Charter Schools are authorities which support curriculum innovation, family involvement and student achievement through independent public schools. Charter schools are public schools of choice which serve ALL student populations, provide tuition-free education, offer flexibility and greater accountability.

Southern Nevada: Active Adults Shop for Health and Flavor

Active Adults Shop for Health and Flavor

Get Shopping for Health and Flavor in the Las Vegas Valley

Veg Out Las Vegas offers an Oatmeal Burger
After listening to AARP Radio with Nutritionist Joyce Boyer, a regular on NBC's Today Show, the 2009 airing of "Healthy Grocery Shopping Can be Simple", inspired me to seek out options available in the Las Vegas Valley. Active adults know diet and nutrition are priorities to enjoy their lifestyle. What do the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas offer in Nevada for health and flavor?

Las Vegas Valley Farmers Markets
Farmers Markets are located every day of the week across the Las Vegas Valley. Fresh52 is a lively, friendly, open air farmers market where neighbors and friends come together to celebrate their community. The Tivoli Village location at Rampart Boulevard and Alta Drive is one of my favorite weekly events to attend. I enjoy the selection of produce, crafts, the surroundings, and the amenities of Tivoli Village.

Vegetarian Meals to Go
One of my favorite finds at the Fresh52 Farmer's Market is Veg Out Las Vegas. Owners, Stephanie and Justin genuinely care about the vegetarian meals they create each week. Take home a selection of sauces, dips, soups, sandwich fillings, entrees and desserts to stock in  your refrigerator and freezer. A sauce like Creamy Basil Pesto (no added fat) with pasta, Lemon Broccoli Soup (no added fat), fresh green salad from the farmer's market produce and 100% Whole Wheat Chocolate Cake (no added fat) is one meal plan you can have at your easy access. Stephanie and Justin also like my recommendation for The Perfect Scoop (handmade vegan ice creams).  "They can make you a vegan ice cream brownie sundae made with Veg Out's decadent Sea Salt Brownies." One of the best ways to stay in contact with Veg Out Las Vegas is to follow their postings on Facebook which provide you with weekly menu updates and a host of photos to lure you to their locations.

Healthy Living Inside and Out: Your Home and Your Body

Strawberry Spinach Wrap, Stuffed Salmon, Chicken Parmesan! Chef Gene Villiatora creates the next best option to having your own personal chef with healthy food in mind.  My Healthy Meal provides the Las Vegas Valley residents with planned out meals based on dietary needs or goals, like raw, low-calorie, low-carb, gluten-free, vegetarian, high-protein. Las Vegas Weekly wrote about Chef Villiatora as "keeping it fresh". The philosophy includes the use of ingredients that are free of preservatives, hormones, fillers or antibiotics. We use organic produce when it is available.Since 2012, the mission of My Healthy Meal is "Our mission is to make healthy eating more convenient. We are taking back take-out and allowing you to reach your goals even with a busy schedule." The shopping process is easy too. Select the items you want, select the location to pick-up your meals and enjoy your dining experience at home or on the go.

Not Done Yet!  My Search Continues for Shopping for Health and Flavor

The journey will not end.  I will continue my search for eating healthy for a long and healthy life.  Join me on the search. Thank you, Jill Paige

We actually got our start at the local farmers markets selling handmade pastries, desserts and Hawaiian style snow cones called Shave Ice." I first learned about Sasapops at a local Las Vegas event and then found them in the frozen section at Whole Foods Market.  Sasapops may not be officially ice cream, but they state, "No added flavors or colors. No funky gums or stabilizers. Just pure goodness frozen on a stick." There are Salted Peanut Caramel, Carrot Cake, Apple Pie al la Mode Pumpkin Pie and there are more! I recommend Pineapple Upside Down Cake! Sasa pops are available at Las Vegas Premium Outlets.
